tooth problems

Has nayone else had an issue with their collapsing? I have lost most of my molars because they just collapse and crumble> Is that because of the SS?

Yes, Sjogren's dry mouth can cause your teeth to de-mineralize and crumble especially, if you were recently diagnosed, as the damage usually takes several years of moisture loss to occur. Also, lack of saliva prevents the mouth from producing enzymes that protect the teeth. Eating/drinking things like carbonated beverages & ciitrus can also affect the health of your teeth as the saliva is not there to dilute them.

Another factor that can contribute to your teeth loss is medications that can dry you out such as diuretics (water pills,) antihistimines, and decongestants, Check your prescriptions to see if the interactions state they may cause dry mouth.

To prevent such decay in the future, you should ask your dentist for a high-floride toothpaste such as Fluoridex or Colgates Provident 5000+ (or generic version)

Oh yes..Sjogrens will do a number on your teeth. Spent close to $7000. last year on dental work(bridges,crowns etc.) Dry(a member here) is a dental hygenist and she will come along and give you some great tips or you can search the previous posts of hers and others regarding this issue.
