Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disorder in which immune cells attack and destroy the exocrine glands that produce tears and saliva. It also associated with rheumatic disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, and it is rheumatoid factor positive in 90 percent of cases.
Guess I now know why I have so many issues with my teeth going to dentist tomorrow about a tooth and may end up pulling it and a few more. It's so embarrassing. I brush my teeth regularly. Just dont know what to do anymore.

Hey, I can can completely understand what you are dealing with. 1 tooth then three. Reassured there would be. No more. Then a landslide .a hospitalization Looking for where there could be an infection at my heart valves. NOPE. BUT I HAVE LOST ANOTHER TOOTH!! I got a true length that can find it all ....the dental panoramic tooth and mouth There it was finally a scientific that revealed the problem that caused my teeth problems was lack of saliva . I understand I have lost all my teeth and have dentures now which is no picnic with this disease either.

Hey there, I totally understand what you are going thru. I was diagnosed with Sjogrens 4 years ago and had all sorts of dental issues since i was pregnant with my son (1995). I kept telling the dentists that I thought there was a medical issue but not a single one listened to me. It wasn't until my diagnosis with Sjogrens that it became clear that it was the cause of my dental issues resulting in me getting dentures 13 years ago after the birth of my daughter.

Finding a non-shaming dentist was major for me. I have had 3 root canals and currently working on 20+ open cavities right now.

Well now I have a new rheumatologist and she saying my test for sjogrens is negative but had it show up 3 years ago in my labs. It doesn't just go away does it. I read there's no cure. I go back this Wednesday to get more answers or try too.

I too had issues with my teeth. Ever since I was pregnant with my son in 1995. It gradually got worse over the years and then 10 years later I would up getting all my teeth removed and had dentures put in. All that time I kept telling the doctors and dentists that there was something wrong but they all said it was just bad hygiene. Well when I was diagnosed with Sjogrens in 2015 (20 years after I developed issues) they determined that the tooth issue was from Sjogrens and the dry mouth. So I was right all along but the doctors and dentists dismissed my concerns. I still have problems with dry mouth and have found out that my salivary glands in my cheeks have stopped working altogether.
