Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disorder in which immune cells attack and destroy the exocrine glands that produce tears and saliva. It also associated with rheumatic disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, and it is rheumatoid factor positive in 90 percent of cases.
I have to have Total Thyroidectomy surgery on April 24th. How do I deal with dry mouth and throat issues since I will have to stop fluids the night before surgery? UGH!! Anyone out there who can share their experience and what seemed to help?
Sorry to hesr about your surgery. My daughter(she's 43) had this surgery last year. All went well and they sent her home the next afternoon. She doesn't remember the day of surgery ;even though she talked to us a few hours after the operation.
So the good news is: you won't know you have dry mouth the first 24 hrs. She was able to use ricola throat lozengers. (the nite before BUT...Please check with your Doc office as there is a nurse(usually) in charge of instructions.

I will definitely mention having Sjogren's and dry mouth when I go to see the anesthesiologist and I'll try to check with the nurse.
I hope I don't remember much of surgery day, too. Sounds like your daughter did well with the surgery since she went home the next day. I'll let you know how it goes for me.
