Sjogren's Syndrome Support Group
Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disorder in which immune cells attack and destroy the exocrine glands that produce tears and saliva. It also associated with rheumatic disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, and it is rheumatoid factor positive in 90 percent of cases.

I was wondering if anyone Sjogren's is also experiencing skin problems like seborrheic dermatitis. If so, how are you coping with it? I know that they may not necessarily be connected, but I have read that people with rheumatic disorders often experience psoriasis and the like.

I get skin rashes allot. I have red painful bumps on my stomach & sides. They never go away. In a flare they are very painful. I don't like my clothes touching that area. Sometimes I break out in a red rash under my arms, breast, stomach & groin. Like the hives or a very painful sunburn. This rash last 3 days & then fades. I have very, very dry skin. In spaces my skin looks like I'm shedding like a snake skin. I feel like my body is drying out from the inside out. Sjogren's is awful!!!!

I have extremely dry skin & get something like eczema on my elbows, knees & now my nipples. I scratch my elbows so bad I get scars. There is a psoriatic arthritis & the derm can do a biopsy to be sure.

I deal with eczema on my hands and lower arms all the time. I have been to a dermatologist and the only thing I do is use a cortisone cream. It helps almost immediately. However, you need an accurate diagnosis before it can be treated correctly.

Thanks for your replies. Sometimes I feel like doctors are completely clueless when I mention things like this to them (connection between skin issues and Sjogren's)- they look at me puzzled like they've never heard of it before. I'm currently trying to treat my dermatitis naturally. I tried prescription cortisone which helped somewhat, but that thins skin over time and cannot be used long term without a break in between treatments, from what my dermatologist told me.

Yes, itchy, greasy, flaky scalp. I have tried salicylic acid shampoos (T-Sal), coal tar (T-Gel) smells real bad), bought a fancy shampoo from France, salicylic acid with a lot of perfume, left my hair greasy with a pleasant smell. Dermatitis can be a fungal infection, there is an over the counter called Nizoral 1% (prescription strength is 2 percent). All of these products require that you leave them on for 3-4 minutes before rinsing but it can really dry out the hair and give a rebound effect (the more you use it, the more you have to use it). I haven't tried vinegar in recent years because of the lingering smell. Let me know if you find the magic wand! Did it again, guess they don't want us linking commercial sites. If you get to the Max Green Alchemy site, click on Cosmetic Counter Intelligence and it will take you to the list of nine ingredients you shouldn't use on your skin.
