Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disorder in which immune cells attack and destroy the exocrine glands that produce tears and saliva. It also associated with rheumatic disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, and it is rheumatoid factor positive in 90 percent of cases.
I am pretty new to this diagnosis and all that comes with it so forgive me for asking any questions that are either simple or have absolutely nothing to do with the disease itself. :) I have been having random bout of serious pain when I swallow food or drink. not everyday, almost in flares if you will. I have researched and found that Salivary Gland area is the exact area I feel the pain, it is almost like a lock jaw feeling I would say. Does anyone else with this syndrome experience the same type of pain? I have tried hot compresses and cold but the only thing that seems to help are the anti-inflammatorys.
SP84 - Are you taking any medication? My dry mouth has improved greatly since being on Evoxac.
As I understand it, it is one of the hallmark symptoms of Sjogren's.
If I am in a social setting, I get pain here I think because I am smiling more?
I get it in flares, and it really hurts sometimes just before I am about to eat something, so I know it is salivary-related.
