Has anyone with Sjogrens (specifically sicca) dry eyes and mouth, had or have occurences of ringing in the ear?

Yes, I have primary Sjogrens and when my sicca symptoms started, tinnitus (ringing in the ears) also started. It drove me crazy at first, but now I've gotten used to it.

I have it terribly...it's the worst in the morning when I wake up, sounds like a train...very loud. I hope I can stop it somehow...it's not going to be easy. Alprazolam helps, but it's certainly not a permanent solution either...

I have had problems with the ringing but mine comes and goes. It bugs the heck out of me but then I get used to it, more or less, then it simply goes away until it visits me again. I have no idea what triggers the comings or goings of it. I almost always have a popping in my ears when I chew which is more consitant.

Yep, I have it too. I have a cabinet full of things to try to fix it, but I haven't tried any of them!

I have it,buzzing in both ears.It is there all the time, sometimes louder than other times with a loud whistle evry now & then. I have got used to it!

Thank you for sharing your experiences! You made this miserable condition somehow more bearable knowing that it IS a symptom of Sjogren's. The ENT made no connection even though I told him I had Sjogrens. He said there was no treatment for it and I suppose that's true.

I have had ringing in my ears for many many years. It got worse after a surgery. The antibiotic is probably to blame that I recieved IV. This ringing is nerve damage. The little nerve fibers inside our ears get damaged by loud noise or medication etc. They lay down in there and that is what creates the ringing. Of course we are not actually "hearing" the ringing. It is a brain thing. I am sorry to say that once those fibers are damaged there is no fixing them. I did not have Sj when mine started but it is getting much worse. Medication will definately make it worse if that is what you are sensitive to.
On a somewhat funny note my husband saw I man on TV who had been shot in the head! The guy survived it and was thrilled that his tinnitus was gone! That proves it is a brain thing rather than an ear thing concerning our brains perception of it I think. That pathway was interrupted somehow. Whoever figures this one out is going to be wealthy. It is an awful thing to live with loud noise in your ears 24/7.
