renal tubular acidosis

My doctor still has not diagnosed me because she states that I don't have enough symptoms. I have been research SS symptoms. I have had chronic low back pain and then I read about renal tubular acidosis. It sounds pretty benign as far as symptoms go... but it might explain the fatigue and a couple other symptoms.

I am wondering if any of you have had this and if you can share your symptoms and how your Dr. found it.

my eyes were my dead give away..they are SS eyes apparently?....i just read up on this condition..i am gunner speak to my GP,as my urine has changed color somewhat and i have this pain in my side that wont go away?..somtimes i feel like it burns to pee but no infection?...im gunner get my Kidneys checked i think.....SS is hard to DX..you need a good Rhumey or eye guy to look at your symps closely if your bloods are neg.[which they can be]...good luck and thanks for posting this....

I have RTA, and it's not my friend even more so than sjogren's! I started with chronic back pain until the back pain turned into a ambulance trip to the hospital. This trip followed 3 years and hundreds, yes hundreds of kidney stones. I was passing stones every several days. The urologist would clean them out and a week later pain and stones return. Finally another trip to the heart hospital with critically low potassium levels. I was pumped full of potassium and sent on my way. Next thanks to a great rhematologist a trip to the nyphrologist and a diagnosis of hypokalemia and RTA. Since last April I have been on 240mg (15 of those large make me what to vomit tablets)of potassium daily and weekly labs. This just keeps my potattium level within normal range and my heart in a normal rythem and now chronic kidney failure. I now have what they call matrix stones. I though the doctor was making up this as he joked about what a challanging patient I am, but no they are real all to real and painful. OH THE PERKS OF SJOGRENS!! Other than the symptoms of chronic pain and passing of stones at times I have blood in my urine but never an infection. My urine at times has a funny odor and color. When I give urine specimens they have tissue in them.

So my advice is to have a ct to look at the kidneys and have your blood work done to check your kidney function and potassium levels. When you have low potassium you will experience extreme fatigue.

strange cos ive noticed my wee is a diferent clour and odour...and i have this pain in my side all the time...im gunner get checked out.. Docs have no idea that SS can cause all this?..they think its dry eyes and mouth and that"s it..and Lord how illinformed they are..
