Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disorder in which immune cells attack and destroy the exocrine glands that produce tears and saliva. It also associated with rheumatic disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, and it is rheumatoid factor positive in 90 percent of cases.

Hi has anyone here had renal involvement due to Sjogrens only? Thank you in advance.

I am only at pre sjorgens stage but blood work did show certain kidney levels were off so I am going to a specialist. And, yes, I believe the disease can affect the kidneys.

I was diagnosed with Sjogren's nearly 25 years ago, and about 5 years, ago I was also diagnosed with stage 3A kidney disease. I had to change a few of my meds and it's been stable ever since. (I'm now 72, so no doubt age is also related).

Make sure you are treated for hypertension (if you have it), and get your blood work done as requested by your rheumatologist (or primary or nephrologist) as that's the only was they can track it's progress, unless you have a more severe condition that caused your kidney disease.

Also, be sure to tell your health care provider about all of the over-the-counter medications you take as some common ones such as Tylenol can adversely affect your kidneys.
