Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disorder in which immune cells attack and destroy the exocrine glands that produce tears and saliva. It also associated with rheumatic disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, and it is rheumatoid factor positive in 90 percent of cases.
Lately I feel like I can't taste anything unless it has a really strong flavor. Has anyone else lost their ability to taste. My mouth is dry but it bothers me most at night. I don't notice it as much in the daytime but I do drink a lot of water.
How old are you? Taste - and sense of smell - do fade with age. Read about Sjogrens and if you think you have it see a Rheumatologist. As I just told another riposte - often one symptom is more prominent. For me it was dry mouth and I was not at all bother day dry eye -= but I have it!!
It is IMPORTANT to know if you have SS because dry mouth is not just annoying. Inadequate saliva production causes cavities, etc. If your is primarily at with, however -- I might suggest a sleep test. It is very likely that you mouth is dry at night because you are a mouth-breather and that is likely due to nasal congestion. Try one of the nose strips and see if that helps.
