I'm not sure if I asked this before but I am wondering about healing on this med? I bruise more easily but not horrible but I have noticed that I heal so slowly. I had a bicyce wreck last Aug. and still have scar spots. It took many weeks for the scraps to heal up to that point. It seems any scratch or scrap takes forever to heal. I am worried that if I was in a real accident or if I had to have surgery it might not be good. I have read the side effects and it does mention bruising but not about the healing process.

Good question. Been on plaquenil for about 5 weeks now. Didn't think to check to see if bruises were less. Will have to watch now. I too have some scars of owies long ago that took forever to heal.

I have been on plaquenil for several months now and I do believe healing is slower. I do not have any experience like a bicycle wreck or anything, but I do break out in this rash, like spider bites and they take forever to heal. I talked to my doctor about it and she said the most important thing is to keep my skin moisturized. I have very dry skin now with the Sjogrens (I always had oily skin before).

I do try to keep moisturizer on, but the best thing I've found for my rash is neurosporing. It makes the rash disapear much faster then doing nothing.

Also, I don't seem to bruise any easier than prior to plaquenil.

I've been on plaquenil for almost 3 years and I never noticed myself healing slower.

I've been on plaquenil for 6+ years and haven't notice a big problem with superficial injuries, but I had to have back surgery (fusions, bone grafts, cyst pressing on spine) and I had to stop the plaquenil prior to surgery and couldn't restart until 3 months after because it could interfer with healing.

Wow thanks Perlina its good to know what you said about the plaquenil. so did your symptoms exacerbate while off the plaquenil for so long? Did they wean you off it slowly when you had to stop? I am possibly going to have some back surgery and I have just started to feel much better on the plaquenil so I am not looking forward to feeling icky again. Sorry to bust in on your post mseaton.
