hair thinning

has anyone experience hair loss. mainly at crown area. none of my family has thin hair. I did have a thyroid test and it was fine. Thought it had something to do with S.S.

You on plaquenil? Many other drugs can thin hair too.

yes i am but it was happening before I even was diagnoised with S.S, they even checked my thyroid and it was ok. I hope that it doesn't continue to thin yeak!!!!

Hair thinning was the very 1st sign that something was 'wrong' with my health back in '08. I went to a woman dermatologist about the hiar loss, and much to my surprise, this prompted her to test me for ANA...it was positive, and finally I got my SS diagosis by a Rheumatologist.

As for the hair loss, the dermatologist prescribed "biotin 5000" which actually slowed down the hair loss quite a bit. It's an OTC vitamin supplement that comes in different strengths...1000mg, 2500, and 5000. You could give it a try.

I can vouch for the Biotin 5000, too. My hair is thin and fine anyway, so when I was loosing so much it was very distressing. Now, I'm finding less and less hair in the drain all the time. Can't say that it is making my hair grow...but I'm just happy to hang on to what I have.

I experienced hair loss before my diagnosis as well. Mine actually improved after being on Plaquenil for a few months, which leads me to believe my hair loss was autoimmune related.

Thanks for the Biotin. I have noticed my hair thinning too recently. And same as others does not run in family. It used to be VERY thick.now thin..every time I comb my hair it comes out. I also comb it wet slow and carefully starting at end and work my way up using a wide tooth comb. Then later brush with boar bristle brush for fine hair.
