I got the H1N1 with no side affects. My Rheumatologist, PCP, and Neuphrologist all said get it so I did. I also got the seasonal flu shot and pneumonia. They all said it was necessary since I'm on methotrexate. Use your best judgement and consider what other stuff you have with your sjogren's. Good Luck.

I just had the R2D2 or N1H1 flu- it's awful. Haven't had a cold or flu in well over ten yrs. It hit me like a ton of bricks , cold sweats ....no stomach issues though.
Lasted two solid days and nights then started to break on the third day. Felt it Friday by Saturday night full blown .....today its just head cold , bad one but bearable.

Sjogrens foundation recommends you ask your doctor . But, says no reason not too.

It's not as bad as other flu's I've had, no stomach issues was a huge relief.
Just turned up the heating blanket and rode it out...

It makes your bones hurt like 7734 so if you have TMJ or any effects from parotids and jaw pain it will be affected. I was worried about it causing a flare.....its so bad I wouldn't have known. :-) But It seemed to be ok.

I'd have to say get the shot although its effectiveness is in question. My wife sees it everyday in the ER - people that have had the shot back with the flu.

Who knows...It is bad and your age and condition would certainly play into getting it or not.

Tom, glad you survived H1N1. I'm curious - did you get the regular seasonal flu shot? I haven't gotten either one yet. I haven't had a flu shot or the flu in 32 years and don't want to push my luck (but I realize this could be my year for it).

It's funny cos I logged on to post this very same question? I was advised by my Consultant Immunologist and Practice Nurse to have it so had the first shot today and feel ok. Swine flu seems vile and I got enough symptoms to be getting on with. Got to have second shot in 3 weeks time as I told her my immune system is compromised and apparently in that case I need two!

Oh had normal flu jab a few weeks ago as well so protected from all types of flu now. Leaflet I was given said to ask people who live with you to consider jab in case they get flu and pass it on to you... Did not think of that!

Got the swine flu vaccination 2 days ago .My arm and limbs felt like lead ,it felt like my legs had been injected als and felt very weak in my other joints .I had hot and cold shivering .I spent half a day in bed .Limbs feeling better but been sick twice so far .Still feeling very hot and not wanting to eat .......I am hoping it will end soon .My husband had it also same symtoms but by day 2 his was over he is diabetic .I have ssj and mctd

SAM: No shots , I cannot remember getting the flu in at least 15-20 yrs not even a cold for min of ten years. I just never get sick. My wife and kids hate me for it.
I just tell them I'll take colds and flu you can have SjS. :-)
I'm actually scared of vaccines with SjS. I'd worry something else would flare up. But this flu is downright nasty as far as body aches and joints hurting. My lungs were pretty bad too..

My jaw and ears are still sore and my ears ringing louder than normal. So that's one thing it has affected. My gums got sore to and teeth.

Yesterday it got much better I actually went back to walking.

My wife has SS & FMS, and I have SS & RA. We both got the H1N1 and seasonal flu shots 3 weeks ago. For the first 2 weeks our pain, stiffness, fatigue, sweats, chills, etc. were REALLY BAD. After 3 weeks, we still feel horrible, but are gradually improving. As bad as it has been, we're still glad that we were able to find the H1N1 shots, because having the flu would have been much worse. When we get the seasonal flu shot every year, we are normally sick for 2 or 3 days. I'm not sure if it was both shots at once or what, but this year we've been sick for 3 weeks instead of 3 days.

As bad as our autoimmune flare-up has been, at least it is not life-threatening as the flu can be. We did not have any respiratory problems or upset stomach, but all of our normal day-to-day problems were much worse. My major salivary glands have been swollen up like goose-eggs.

I am back to the doctors today as after the swine flue vaccine I still have bad symptoms of sickness coughing alot of phlem (sorry) exhausted even more tehn the normal that can't go to work and still getting very hot and shivering .
My sister had the other vaccine where you get 2 child dozes 3 weeks apart she seems to be managing alot better .She is on methotrexate whereas I just take the plaquenil and esomeprazol.

I have not gotten the H1N1 shot... my Rheumatologist said he wasn't to worried about it and felt there was a lot of hype around it? But I did get the Seasonal flu shot... Sorry to hear about those who have been experiencing side affects from the H1N1 shot. Feel better!
