Sjogren's Syndrome Support Group
Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disorder in which immune cells attack and destroy the exocrine glands that produce tears and saliva. It also associated with rheumatic disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, and it is rheumatoid factor positive in 90 percent of cases.
I use a biotene spray it sits on my bed post. I probably use it as needed when I wake up dry like you describe. Another trick I use is a nose strip that keeps your airway open so you don't breath as heavily through your mouth.
Mouth breathers W/SjS is torment. You could probably also try a oramoist tab or salese.
Both last a lot longer than a lozenge.
That or a water bottle bedside
This is what works best for me. Expensive but it has the enzymes needed to replace your saliva's protective film. I've tried several others too. This one tastes the best to me.
Walmart - Target both, at least locally , stopped carrying it , so pharmacy's are the best bet.
Mzkimmy - I'm still worried about the choking issue at night but I will try the lemon drops during the day.
Thanks to you both.
Drug stores are the only resource. Which sucks because they are by far the most expensive. If you have a regular pharmacy ask for a discount, I get 15% at my local pharmacy. Adds up when you use as much as me.
Yes, the other brand is milky , awful tasting and useless. Biotene also has a weird taste but you get used to it. It also has two uses. If you know anyone with a dry cough tell them about it, it's UNREAL how well it works for dry hacks.
My wife had a bad cold last winter she could stop coughing, made her try the spray - so I could sleep-lol- and her cough stopped instantly!
Sam, while I've never taken Evoxac, I do take salagen. I understand what you mean about the sweating...omg, I'd soak through all the layers of my clothes and have sweat dripping off the end of my nose. At one point I started to carry clean, dry underware in my purse so I could change out of the sopping wet ones...truly awful. However nothing restores moisture like those pills, and my answer was to take 1/4 to 1/2 pill every 1-2 hours. It's a pain in the butt to be taking all those pills, but that way I get the benefits of having extra saliva *without* sweating rivers. Small frequent doses of the pills has really helped decrease the pain in my mouth/throat and has eliminated the side effects.
There are some other interesting suggestions here that I may try. The mineral oil sounds like it could work, but I wonder if that gives a laxative effect?
