I do clear my throat a lot, and I have noticed recently that my voice is not as strong as it used to be. I used to have a powerful voice, but it seems to be getting weaker. (Hard to project).
I frequently take Mucinex; I have for years.

I do have a dry, hacking cough. i don't clear my throat much. But even though there is nothing there, I choke and have trouble speaking without going into a coughing fit sometimes. The coughing keeps me awake most nights and is not affected by cough drops or anything. I wish Mucinex would work for me, but I don't have congestion :( .
I also have a semi-frequent whistling in my chest when I breathe and I can't eat anything cold or frozen because it makes it hard for me to breathe. Rheumy says it is SS lung and bronchi involvement.
I sure hope you feel better and flare free soon.

I clear my throat all the time and do have coughing spells. They sometimes wake me in the night too. My mouth gets really dry at night. I blame a little of it on the night guard that I sleep in to keep me from grinding my teeth but not all. I take water to bed and drink most of it by morning. I thought the coughing and wheezing were from mild asthma. I can hear myself wheezing at night but only when I breath out not in. Didn't know it could be from SS. My internist doesn't pay much attention to me when I mention my SS, even though he was the one who told me I tested positive for it. He acts as though He's forgotten every time I mention it. I know I have had a milder case than most folks on this group. I've heard so much suffering from so many. I've been lucky so far but I feel like things are progressing for me. I lost my voice completely last winter and again about a month ago. I blamed the last time on allergies sense it was Spring. He put me on Plaquniel in 2010 because I kept complaining about being so stiff. I had been checked for rheumatoid arthritis but was negative but positive for SS. I had never heard of it. He just said go home and google it. Which I did. That;s how I found this group. Well a couple of weeks ago he took me off of it because I was asking question about it. He even asked me why I was on it. He asked if it helped the dryness and I said I didn't think that much so he said not to take it any more. Didn't want to take a chance on hurting my eyes. I am having a lot of osteoarthritis pain and am concidering trying to find a rheumatologist . I think I am beginning to need one.

By the way, I used to be in our church choir. NO more. My voice breaks and cracks and I can't sing anymore. My voice isn't strong any more either.

I clear my throat all the time. And is always very dry and it hurts. I often wonder if is something else going on with my tnroat, I always need to have a water by my bed because at night is worst, I live with a sore throat.

I can now - in hindsight - assure you all that throat clearing and dry hacking coughs ARE (or certainly CAN BE) from Sjogrens!!! Once I got on Prednisone and then back on Orencia for my RA it all cleared up. If your Sjogrens is mild to moderate ad you are not in flare-up like i was and experiencing these symptoms EVXAC (RX) might help. Ask your doctor about it. Has some ANNOYING but not dangerous side effects that some people cannot tolerate - i.e, sweating. It makes ALL the difference for me.... (except when i was in that flare up.)

MUCINEX helps the cough!!

My throat clearing didn't start until I quit smoking just over 2 weeks ago. I do cough often, mostly at night. It is less now, without the smoking. I notice that my voice is cracking like some mentioned and sounds like I might be losing my voice for a day here and there. I am new to SS, and it is mostly my left eye that drives me insane. Interesting information, thank you for sharing.
