I used ProClear before. Now I use Acuvue Oasys.

I liked the Oasys too, but I've even had to quit wearing those. There is a brand that is more gas permeable, but they didn't have the strength I needed. Ask your optician which one is best for dry eyes. However, I now know how much contacts dried my eyes out. By night time, I always had trouble reading and frequently had the gritty feeling in my eyes. Now I use drops periodically throughout the day, but my eyes stay pretty clear until I'm ready to fall asleep. The difference is huge. I now don't even wear them when I go out, and my glasses are hideous!

I wear the Focus Daily's. That way I get a fresh pair of contacts every day. Unfortunately I am finding that I can't wear them longer than 8 hours without feeling very uncomfortable.
As for drops when I have my contacts in, I was using Renew gel drops for contacts but recently switched to Refresh Plus single use bullets.

I can't wear contacts at all anymore, but I work for an eye dr. and a lot of our patients are having success with Acuvue Trueyes. They are daily contacts. You would put a fresh pair in each day. Our patients say they can't even feel that they have them in or try the Oasys. These two brands let more O2 into the eyes. But my suggestion would be to try the dailies. that way you are wearing a fresh pair each day and you are less likely to get infections and to have cornea problems that come along with the dry eye.

When I was in high school I tried some variety of soft lenses, but my eyes were so dry a film would build up on the lenses that made them so irritating. One time the lenses got so dry while in my eyes that they popped out!

That was 20+ years ago.

More recently I tried the accuvue and the ciba freshlook colorblends. As luck would have it, I didn't get to keep them for long--there just is not enough rewetting solution in the world to keep them afloat throughout the day.

Update: The Air Optix Day and Nights turned out to be the best for me. I can't wear them every day, but when I do, I can get 9+ hours out of them. They have the lowest water content of all the soft contacts which (paradoxically) means they need fewer tears to keep them moist.

I also started using Aquify rewetting drops, which I really like.

I clean my contacts with Clear Care, which I've used for years because it doesn't have preservatives and is the only cleaning solution my eyes can tolerate.

I realized the other day that all 3 of these products are made by CIBA, which makes me feel like they really understand dry eyes.

P.S. - The best daily disposable for me was Acuvue True Eyes (lowest water content), but they cost twice as much as other daily disposables and I didn't get nearly as much wear out of them as the Day and Nights.

I never could find contacts that wouldn't dry up completely by 3:00 p.m., no matter how much drops I put in. And that was before my diagnosis. I wear glasses now when I absolutely need to, prescription sunglasses outside, and the rest of the time I enjoy not knowing how old I'm getting when I look in the mirror.

Contacts aren't an option for me. However, I highly recommend the glasses with no lines around the rims (looks almost invisible) because there is a risk of tearing your retina when removing the lenses. For me, it just not worth the risk and the invisible frames are a really nice alternative. :)
