In 2010, I had a horrible and extremely painful mystery illness causing near loss of communication, memory issues, difficulties walking and doing other things. It would not have surprised me if I died. I basically laid in a painful, veggie like state for a long time. It caused me to be bedridden for about a year. I knew that brain damaged people could learn again, so when I felt better, I tried to figure out what to work on first. I choose written communication since it was a strength of mine and I needed to tell Doctors what the heck was going on with me so they could help me better. I also played computer games, trying to get my brain working again. I can't tell you the buckets of tears I cried out of frustration trying to get my body and mind in gear again. But I'd remind myself that I was making progress, however small at times. I had but a sliver of hope that my life would be anything near normal again and that I would continue to be wracked by intense pain and difficulties. Last spring, I decided that I'd had enough! I was going to fight tooth and nail for the life I wanted back. I felt like a teen behind the wheel, when I finally got my driving abilities back and could cruise down the highway for the first time in about 2 yrs. I'm proud to say I've made great strides these last 5 months. Some days I do things I used to do and other days I can't, but I'm not giving up! You see, I also came down with fibromyalgia after my illness which means that my body's wiring has gone haywire causing me pain which can be quite intense at times. But on days, I don't hurt, I'm like a kid in the candy store of life ;) We got to remember to do some things that make our heart sing, especially during our struggles. Hugs, take care
