Regards, my sister died on May 6, 2025. Prior to her death she became estranged from family members in 2016. My mother died on December 1, 2022. My sister did not attend her funeral. The day that my mother was buried, my niece, my estranged sister's daughter handed letters to her aunts, and uncles while my mother was being buried. Letters indicated that if we went to the house that my mother owned that we were going to be arrested. She changed the locks to the house to prohibit entry to 5 of my siblings. According to my estranged sister she is the sole owner of the house. Something that her 5 siblings were not part of the decision nor were informed. Shortly after my father died my sister took my mother to realestate attorney to include herself on the deed. Therefore, joint ownership meant that once my mother dies, she is the sole owner. In conversations with my mother, my mom was under the impression that when she dies all her children get equal shares.
I went to public records to get a copy of the deed so that I can help my mom put the house in a trust fund so that my mother can become medicaid eligible. My mother did not approach my sister with the situation because she was terminally ill at the time.
I am trying to grieve her death, but it is difficult for me because when she became estranged, I went through a whole grieving and mourning process. Also, I am so angry in the manner in which she treated me and my siblings after my mother died.
