What a realization

I never thought of myself as an addict. I have watched adult movies on and off and I think I mostly enjoyed it, unlike many others who hated it. I am an introvert; also have to move a lot; so I do not have a support system. Today, I read about porn addiction and took a look at my past and thought: "Am I able to stop watching porn? Am I able to not think about watching it in the upcoming week/month? No?" And then I realized I AM an addict, and was blind all these years.


It broke my heart, but also shook me. At least, I know the truth now. I now know I have a mission: I MUST quit. It will be messy; I don't know what to do; Likely I will fail for some times. But I should not give up.

You've taken the first step towards recovery and that is a BIG one. I took that step a little over 2 months ago during the early stages of therapy for porn addiction/compulsive behavior. My mental health has improved so much since coming to terms with my addiction/compulsive behavior. I used to feel significant anxiety and shame after viewing porn or in porn chat rooms. It has not been an easy road and my relationship with my fiance is still on the mend. I have had to hide the behavior and lie about it causing damage to our relationship and trust.

The fact that I gave pain to my fiance is a heavy weight on my shoulder. This is the greatest motivation for me to quit my addiction.
Also, I started working on my coping mechanisms when I get anxious and sad. And I am searching for a counselor in my area, because I think it gives me more sense of responsibility when I talk to a person about this.

My therapist was telling me to find a support group like this since we started working together. I had been complacent for 2 months until I joined this week and am glad I did.

We need all the resources we have at our disposal to beat the addiction. Therapy/counseling will definitely help. Best of luck!
