OK, now that I am beginnig to get out of myself and back into loving my wife, I want to ask a question. A book said that taking a lie detector test was a very powerful way to help those who love us feel safe and begin to relax about trusting us lying selfish addicts. I was told to do it myself and I undrstand the idea of having to face the test in 6 months helping it not be worth acting out. So here is my question;
Addicts: Has anyone had any experience with Lie Detector tests? How did it go? Was it worth it? How did she react?

The reasons for doing one have almost everything to do with the wife's desire to want to trust her husband. Doing a lie detector will give her a strong indication as to whether or not he is worthy of trust. For us, my counselor had me write down 5 questions that I wanted the truth to. Some of them involved issues in the past that I needed cleared, and others were basically asking if he'd acted out on anything since we separated.
Anyhow , I didn't want to do one because of the very reason Pat gave. I know they're more accurate than not, and the administrator can often differentiate nerves from falsity, but given my husband's personality and the risk of getting a false positive, I didn't feel that a) the timing was right (we were still separated) and b) the desire to know outweighed the risks. I guess if nerves did mess with the results, I would never ever believe him again. I just wouldn't know.
However, if I ever doubt him looking in the future, I probably would consider it strongly.
But hey - the fact that you're even willing to consider it shows a pretty good amount of progress. That alone would mean a lot to any wife!
It is a wonderful way to start to gain back the trust of your partner. Make sure you disclose all information to them first. Have your partner make a list of the questions that the want answered.
