Sex / Pornography Addiction Support Group
Sexual addiction, also sometimes called sexual compulsion, is a form of psychological addiction to sexual intercourse and other sexual behavior.
I've been working on actively choosing recovery from Porn and Sex addiction with inconsistent sobriety for some time now. My support network of people have become more limited or less responsive due to their own lives. I feel tremendously alone and emense shame. I review my affirmations and last night I acted out. I know the shame is highest initially after acting out, but my support is not there. I feel like my voice is silenced when I have a willingness to reach out to those I do trust. My circle/network of people I can trust is extremely small yet very meaningful despite it, I am alone with my perceived fears and inadequacies from shame and guilt and need healthy meaningful connection. I believe in God and turn to him frequently for help and I know I have felt growth and help. But I'm not flawless in my execution of choosing healing and recovery. I tend to bounce back strong from my stumbling and occasional acting out moments - which is a typical pattern I notice of addicts. I know I need help in this moment. My perceived fears just seem to undermine so much of what I know to do and keeps my paralyzed it seems. In the hour of temptation, 90-95% of the time I can use my tools and network of people to connect with, but there is still a window where I fail despite plans and preparations for success. I know the goal is not sobriety but actual healing and recovery and sobriety is merely a byproduct of one choosing a life of recovery.
I go to 2 group meetings a week and personal counseling and have been blessed with so many tools and resources, and yet I still crash...and my perfectionist mentality works on me, with shame piggybacking on to moments of guilt, powerlessness, loss, fear, etc.
i just need connection and need to reach out
Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, "Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?" Jesus answered, "I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.
That's how many times God forgives you. He's not holding anything against you.
For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace. You who love the Lord, hate evil! He preserves the souls of His saints; He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked. No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
Remember that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. This is something I have to remind myself often.
Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
