Sexual addiction, also sometimes called sexual compulsion, is a form of psychological addiction to sexual intercourse and other sexual behavior.
Though, depending on how serious your addiction may be, there are no novel ideas but the tried and true methods, there are several steps to take here to address this addiction.
1) Install a web filter such as Blue Coat K-9 Web Protection and have someone else set the password and parameters, this way when you try to access a porn site you will not be able to.
2) Erase all the porn you've accumulated until now and all the bookmarks you may have acquired, as well, as destroy any DVDs you may have created until now.
3) Abstain from masturbation for, at least, 90 days, to break the connection between masturbation and porn.
4) Join a recovery program like Recovery Nation which is online and free but if you want a mentor you can get one for a fee.
5) You may also want to look at www.yourbrainonporn.com, to familiarize yourself with the inner workings of online porn addiction and there is also tons of other info regarding all aspects of porn addiction such as withdrawal symptoms and other goodies.
6) If the recovery program I suggested is not your cup of tea, there are 12 step recovery programs available, the list is available at: www.sexhelp.com.
7) Make a commitment with yourself to make this stick, without it, you'll relapse time and time again. Take it seriously, as you'd take any other lifetime decision, you've already wasted/squandered hours/days/months/years on this, there is absolutely no reason why you'd want to waste anymore seconds on this rather ghastly and ever encompassing addiction.
8) While on recovery, reorganize your priorities, make your recovery top priority in your life, pursue with the same passion you pursued porn. Remember that just as you were able to get addicted to porn, you can get away from it. All you have to do as they say, rewire your brain to healthier pursuits.
9) Reorganize your daily routine, fill the times when you engaged in porn doing something constructive for yourself. Learn a new language, pursue a hobby. However, if you get the urge to indulge, do not turn on your computer, as it will be reinforcing the link in your brain, instead, do something else entirely different, such as go take a walk. leave the house, anything that will not remind you of your porn habit.
10) Last but not least, practice the art of mindfulness, that is being present and aware of how you are feeling at all times. Feel your feelings henceforth instead of covering them up with porn. If you are having problems with feeling emotions, it may be a good idea to seek professional help in the form of therapy. In other words, if you have been using porn to cope with your emotional life, once you are in recovery, you are going to have to learn to feel all of your emotions and be aware of them, at all times, this way when you have a trigger (things that may cause you to indulge), you'll be able to address them in a life affirming way, instead of, indulging.
All and all, the only way to recover from an online porn addiction is through a recovery program because it provides you with all the tools you'll need to get past this addiction and remain sober for the rest of your life.
Porn is an outside source, thus anything outside of you cannot have anymore power than you give it. It seems like it is stronger than you but it is not, it just feels that way.
Once you realize this, the rest will be less overwhelming for you, specially during the withdrawal period which, I must warn you, will be, at times, not a a teddy bear's picnic but once they are gone, they will be gone.
However, it must be said that once you stop watching online porn, you cannot see porn in any other form ever again, just like when you are an alcoholic, you can never have a drink ever again. Therefore constant vigilance is a must once sobriety has been achieved. I still have my web filter, even after a year and a half of sobriety.
Best of luck,
Wolf
