Sexual addiction, also sometimes called sexual compulsion, is a form of psychological addiction to sexual intercourse and other sexual behavior.
I am learning that s/p addiction seems to be the primary addiction choice of a narcissist, so I am hoping I maybe able to seek some advice here.
My husband is a narcissist which of course comes with its own truck load of issues for me, coupled with his recent addiction disclosure I feel as though I am running a gauntlet. During any given conversation I don't know if its the (recovering, 100 days sober) addict speaking to me or the narcissist, they both require a very different approach and so I feel as though I am miss reading every conversation and situation.
How did you deal with / elevate any confusion in the short term? Particularly to get you through the initial dark months? And with long term therapy did you see an improvement in both areas? Was he able to redirect his narcissism on a more positive path rather than at you? For me I need peace and neither traits/addictions sit comfortably in the peace room.

Yes, addicts have a higher level of narcissism. Afterall, their main concern was feeding their addiction for a very long time. People with narcissistic personality disorders have a tendency towards addictive behavior.
There is no way of knowing until he is sober and in recovery.
My husband has a higher level of narcissism than many, but not a personality disorder.
It takes a lot of mindfulness and self awareness in order to be empathetic, compassionate and unselfish, but most of all it takes sobriety and recovery.
He is responsible for telling you where he is coming from--narcissist,addiction or true self. Part of being able to get peace is by giving up the hypervigilance in "reading " the other person. A way that can be communicated is " we are each responsible for communicating our thoughts, feelings and motivations."
