Good for you taking some time away from him, that is a good start. First, you need to work on boundaries to keep you and the children safe from his addiction. Is he willing to get help for himself? therapy with a trained sex addiction therapist? Go to meetings? 12 step? inpatient treatment? Does he want to stop and try to salvage your marriage?
When i caught my husband he spent 18 months "sober" but still lying to me, and then i finally woke up one day and thought to myself WTF am i doing? So i booked a polygraph, and told him i wanted full disclosure, a passed poly and for him to go into treatment for his addiction in order to stay in the marriage....after that it was his choice what he wanted to do ...i just knew that i had to draw that line in my life. Sex addiction isnt about sex, its about so many other things, control, belief system, validation, resentments etc. Know that it isnt you and it wouldnt matter who he was with....

Right now the best thing for you to do is exactly what you are doing now which is taking a break from being with him and taking care of yourself and your children. Focus of you and them right now and in therapy work on rebuilding your self esteem. This addiction is brutal for spouses and causes so much trauma.
As for him, he needs a serious recovery program, perhaps away from home. If he isn't willing to do that, then you have to decide for yourself what you want for you and your kids.
This is why so many marriages fail. The addict wants both his addiction and his other life and he cannot have both.
Build a very strong boundary around that goal and stay strong.

These self-help groups are member formed and run. In them you will learn how to cope effectively with your own feelings and urges to control, how to be an ally with your partner who struggles, and how to have strong boundaries so that you are not repeatedly victimized by someone else's behavior. I recommend that you start here, reading about how others have approached this very difficult and heartwrenching problem that is affecting so.many families today.

Getting some distance is wise and definitely counseling for you. I hope I follow my own advice. As we speak, I've taken up residence in our guest bedroom. The plea not to leave, the promises, the disappearing laptop... I KNOW it won't last, so just taking a breather in the face of the latest slap in the face from his addiction.

I'm pretty raw right now, so not exactly the right person for support, other than to say I literally feel your pain. Cry or rage... cry or rage... cry AND rage... I'm exhausted...

I'm so sorry you are going through this. My advice would be to keep getting therapy for yourself and keep yourself distanced from him. If he wants to come home, lay down some strict boundaries for him with the consequences being that he will be evicted if he cheats again and insist that he get himself into a recovery program. You need to hang in there for your kids, but just know this isn't about you at all. You may want to consider joining a support group if there is one in your area (SANON). Finding support in common experiences will help you realize that this is not your fault and will also help you devise a good plan for yourself. I wish you all the luck!

I think that you have to decide what is best for you. Since you shared that he is a serial cheater, then the likelihood of his changing that pattern is not good. Thing is, it's your life, and you get to make all of the decisions regarding how you'll spend it. Living with a cheater is a miserable existence. I've been there...and done that. That's no way to expend the only life we get.

I don't want to sound harsh in my advice, because I really want to help you, but I am having difficulty wrapping my head around your dating him while he's cheating on you and yet you still married him and had children with him while tolerating his cheating on you the entire time. I say this out of concern, as a recovering addict myself. You knew, and still allowed it to continue, so the message he's getting from you up to this point is, "okay, I can screw anybody, because she's not going to do anything about it anyway." Up to this point there have been no consequences for him. Supposing he brings you home genital herpes or worse due to his affairs? Or worse? He needs to have some very real consequences and you MUST stick to your ultimatums to him. To continue having any type of a sexual relationship any further will be to put your health and potentially life in his hands. Do you really want to take that risk? I think you know what you need to do. By all means, give him the opportunity to recover; my wife did that for me. But in my opinion, he's completely run out of second chances at this point.
