Welcome aboard Newcan! First I would like to thank you for your bravery in being willing to reach out. It's a huge step! I cannot speak for anyone else, but this site has helped me immensely with my sex addiction problems. What I can say is that you won't be scrutinized or talked down to. Thank you soo much R2Q and pottsy! I do feel this is a great step in the right direction. I found out about my porn addiction 5yrs ago. I fooled myself thinking I could deal with it on my own, and boy was I wrong. I was clean for quite some time then slowly started viewing again thinking it was ok because I could control it and keep it to a bare minimum. But my brain was fooled by the addition and it started to become a lot more often. And with that it made me start to inappropriately text/sext with women. Betraying my wife and family. I never intended on hurting the most important person in my life, my amazing and beautiful wife. We are now in a massive struggle that I pray we can overcome. More than ever I now realize knowledge is power and if we all share our knowledge and support I know we all will be better for it. Thank you once again!

My addiction with porn started around two years ago and had gotten very out of hand. I can very much resonate with your being fooled by your addiction. I'd tell myself, "Just one video" or "This will be the last one". It never worked. I would binge for an hour or longer a day. Some days two or three hours of watching. Once I was pleased, the guilt would sink in and I felt awful. Promising limits or believing I was in control were total lies. I've been going cold turkey, and yes it's been hard. Every time I hit a new week, my brain says that I should watch a little as a kind of reward. The addiction is still there, still trying to manipulate me back to it.
I am very sorry for your struggles with your wife and what this addiction has caused. The fact that you're reaching out at least means that you are far from lost to this addiction, and that you can recover and get your life back and your feet under you once again. You can do this!

Hello! I'm new here myself.....maybe not the best of circumstances to meet, but thanks for sharing your struggle.....I found myself relapsing a lot on my own and finally found this site. I read in an article from google scholar that viewing can alter the physiology of your brain in the decision making region (prefrontal cortex? don't quote me haha) and that really shocked me. I had no idea I was slowly damaging the control centre of my brain and losing control over my decisions......the added reasons of shame that haunts me day to day....anyways, see you around this site! and know that people out there are cheering you on in a similar fight :)

Newcan - I know the feeling of betraying / letting down the person who means the most to you in the world. My wife and I are fighting through similar struggles right now. She has always known about my problems with porn but it has recently gotten much worse. This site has already helped me feel much more strength in my fight as I've been able to share with others and be encouraged. Keep it up!
