There were so many times after
over a year of promising myself that I would quit and I hadn't yet that made me want to throw in the towel. My usage had gotten very out of control. It was turning into at Least two or three hours every day or every other day. I also used to masturbste an extremely excessive amount. That is something, too, that I had been trying for years to cut back on. One of the things that has helped me a lot is really digging into the issue and trying to understand it. What is porn doing for you? What space is it filling? Understand what triggers the need for it and why was very important.
In answering the hard questions and being able to openly and safely discuss things, I am now over a month free of porn.
Personally, though we all have different methods of taking porn out of our lives, quitting cold turkey has worked for me, but only thanks to the support of others. Adding filters and barriers to limit access to those kinds of websites has also seemed to help others. Just keep your head up and stay patient with yourself. Recovery is a personal thing, and there's no way to tell what can work; but assuredly, something will.
Thank you for your strength and courage to be willing to reach out.
Anyway, thank you again for the kind words and support! We can do this!
Thank you! It has been very difficult, and some days are worse than others, but it's helped me keep in mind how guilty I would feel after using, and how much I would be letting those down that have gotten me this far. Not to mention myself.
Porn was an escape for me, too. Whether from major stressors or mild agitation. Anything negative would drive me to it, but I would only feel worse after. I have found that reaching out to others and talking about things has really helped dull the urges. If I do get the urge, I'll reach out, even if it's something as simple as asking how someone is doing. I hope you are well!
Oh, after thought: Never listen to the little voice that says "I'll start tomorrow" and "I've made it this far, I think it's fair to get a little treat/reward".
Every land mark I've hit has caused that reaction in my mind. The mind will try and keep bargaining, my best advice is to be careful of that.
