I'm sorry you have not found the support you were looking for, and hope your experience here improves.
Later dude! I'm tuning out now. Not worth reading any more.
Feel free to post away, only don't ridicule someone's belief and, if they ridicule you, try to resolve it in an agreeable manner. People generally don't get feisty unless you're outright attacking them.
However I must concur with Pat, this is a site more based on encouragement then religion. as well as positive reinforcement.
Now I like to consider myself a pretty devout christian but I get a feeling that there are more people hear of all different backrounds, btw did you see the 12 step skeptic post authored by Pat?
there are posts about the pros and cons of 12 step. So you see everyone is of differing beliefs but we want to be a positive support for everyone.
Again I am sorry for your experience and I hope you stick around I have had an experience where I felt like the odd man out and black sheeped but I stuck around.
Give ds a second chance.
let me know if you need some advice or have any questions I would be more than happy to help you
I am not affilated to an church nor religion, but i have a healthy respect for others right to believe so. I am currently married to a non practising Catholic, who is in recovery for his porn addiction that escalated to a sexual addiction.
I have had a really upsetting day today. I took my eleven year old daughter to be tested for 6 hours by psychologists, and found out she is dyslexic and suffering self loathing which is bordering on depression thanks to many people being not understanding of her condition. As a mother i am worried about her future.
That being said, that does not give me the right to come on here, a support group, and be less understanding of others and their journey's.
I appreciate you are under alot of personal stress in your life, or had a busy day at work. I understand what it is like to deal with a spouse whom is struggling with sexual issues, and how that affects our self worth as a partner. However that is not a licence to be less respectful of others.
I do not believe religion is the problem here, it never has been for me, it is your lack of compassion, abrasiveness and lack of empathy to others and their journey. No body has to agree with what everyone said, for that is life. But so far all your imput has been to tell everyone they are wrong, and without one ounce of support nor understanding. This is what has rubbed people up the wrong way.
We have members in this group who are living day to day trying to fight addiction and the urge to act out sexually, something which stress and confrontation is a major trigger for. As is drama!! We also have members who are in recovery and are doing their very best day to day, with what resources the experts have to help them. Such retorts as 'thats BS' is contemptuous.
Mate its got nothing to do with religion, its your approach.
I am extremely pleased you do not have a pornography addiction, how ever i am going to agree to disagree on your strong views of how porn is not a problem, and support the strong views of those whom are actually experts in the field, ones who have years of experience and much data to back it up. May i refer you to anything written by Patrick Carnes Ph.d.
Now i am the administrator to the spouses group. There are many women and two guys in that group who are suffering greatly at the hands of addiction within their relationships. Many are suffering from manipulation from the addicts, Post Traumatic Stress Syndrom, and self esteem issues. Many are fragile and are not strong enough to even come onto the main board here, as they are so emotionally drained from much drama at home already. More drama is not what they need right now.
As promised in the group statement its a place for them to "come together for healing, venting, understanding, support and friendship without fear of embarrassment nor judgement'.
Because of the many reasons listed above, i do not feel you currently have anything to offer the group, as do many others who have messaged me today. So for that reason i did revoked your membership to the spouses group.
I do very much hope you can work on your anger issues and work on creating less drama, for not only will it benefit you, but will benefit your wife and her struggles, and your family.
May i suggest you start your own group, since you have some very definate opinions, and find those whom share views.
I do not wish to butt heads with you any further, and hope you can start to respect others opinions before you continue to infect the board further with your negativeness, so others with real afflictions can feel confident to post.
May we all have continued strength to all fighting this addiction.
I am in a few different support groups, and in each o have encountered lots of different people. I guess a lot have been christian. but there were some who were not too... some who don't believe in god at all... and some of other faiths.
I think you should only leave this site, if you feel its doing more harm for you then good...
I have run into a person who two who has been doing more harm then good on here, criticizing others and stuff like that. and I my self just had to learn to ignore them.
I like it on here. I have been supportive of every one i can be, and if i don't feel like i can be supportive i just stay silent. I think that's the best way for me. keeps me out of trouble.
My bf is struggling with a porn addiction, and i usually just silently creep on here trying to understand things better.
I guess my point is, there will always be the people out there that are going to do things to piss us off, and make out lives a bit more difficult, and yeah its not fair... but... there's also the people that do help on here.. and they are great....
but yeah, i don't think this is a christian based site...but i do not doubt that there is a lot of Christians on here.
i hope if you choose to stay you get better support on here... good luck with what ever you decide to do.
