If you are looking a few times a week, it will only increase as time goes on. Porn is a progressive disease. You will spend hours a day watching more and onto hardcore porn. Then it will come to a point to a point where just watching will not be enough. You will act out sexually seeking anyone who will have you. It will destroy your life.
I am not telling you anything that I haven't experienced myself. Porn killed my first marriage. I started out watching a few times then I went everyday and then to hardcore stuff then to acting out sexually. Porn kills the spirit. There is absolutely nothing good about porn.
My wife is going through some medical issues that have taken sex off the table for the last couple of months, and will likely do so for a few months more. (Yet we are more affectionate than ever in smaller ways.) Far from feeling like I am about to explode, I feel more at peace than ever. I am literally spending an hour a day in prayer at the moment, and that is making a big difference. It is also enabling me to be more aware of little things I can do for others. (Of course, you being a social worker, I'd imagine you have opportunities to people all day.)
I avoid things that are likely to tempt me -- when I pass that attractive woman on the street now, I don't go looking over my shoulder to get that extra glance. I do my best to avoid looking at women who are provocatively dressed, and I have even started deleting songs from my mp3 player that put the wrong thoughts in my head. If I were alone and really, really, tempted, I suppose I'd go run an errand to get myself out of the house.
I do recommend breaking this pattern, whether or not it constitutes an addiction. Nothing good can come from it, and there is so many better things you could be doing.
So my advice try to get away with it as fast as you can as if its a hungry beast after you and everything you love, remember I also consider women in bikini and short clothes as mild/soft porn because that's where most people starts from admiring women beauty to the point lusting on their naked body.
May god help you.I hope you understand..!
Anyways, if you are looking at porn on your phone, or a computer, install k9. Toss out the porns, etc. I wish you good luck. Also, talking to people face to face (with people about recovery, and with people about anything) has helped alot. I also found writing down my day in a journal has helped me personally.
There is concern that you say you try to fight the compulsion to watch porn (this is separate from masturbation itself, though the two get too attached sometimes). It's true that the compulsion to watch porn leads to more and more and other kinds of kinkier porn, and you could end up in serious mental and emotional trouble. Some people end up in physical trouble also when the porn they watch gets kinkier and they begin to act out on the fantasies.
Things that help when your mate is away... don't sit and stew and get bored, do activities that keep you busy, hobbies, social activities, etc.
