I know it is hard to change one's behavior - one day at a time as the old saying goes. Guilt and shame can help us to make some changes as long as we don't beat up ourselves -its an everyday struggle for me as well - some days you eat the bear and some days the bear eats you.

Hey , I’m new to this too I made my first post. Guilt is a very powerful emotion which can make us depressed and keep us there and we let it. Positive thoughts need to be practiced. I’m struggling too... 22 yrs addict and I’m trying new methods of battling my addiction. Even a day sober is a victory... I remember when I deleted my porn stash from my computer ... it took an hour to erase everything. I had at least 300GB of random porn on my hard drive of videos and photos I collected. I was so sick of seeing it and controlling me daily. Watching it disappear was so emotional for me but a victory over my life

You can help her. You don't have to have your addiction under control in order to help her. In fact, sharing your weaknesses with her - may help her to share her weaknesses with you. You both can find the high road together. The first thing to do is pray - it is essential. Pray that God will help you both find a way out of your addictions. Secondly - read about how God loves you even in your weakness. Find redemption in Jesus and let that love compel you to live differently. Find a good support group like Celebrate Recovery. They meet at churches in many cities. Good luck my friend. Prayers for your success and being able to walk forward as a redeemed man! That you can then help your friend get rid of her addiction too!
