I've struggled with masturbation for a long while and I'm certain that I want to stop I just don't know how on one part It make me feel so guilty and filthy and then I honestly repent for a while only to fall back into the same pattern. I know I can stop and I've tried on my own but it never sticks, please I would love any advice that can help me overcome this issue, especially if you are going through the same thing or you've dealt with this before. thanks

That site is the best for tons of information. Take the 90 day challenge. You can do this and will feel so much better when you are in recovery. Fill that time with other things, when you get the urge go for a walk, call a friend, do whatever you can until that moment passes.

My thoughts on what you posted as it relates to me....

My experience was that I could not stop until I was able to say this: "I know I CANNOT stop and I've tried on my own but it never sticks."

I am a sex addict in the truest sense of the word. I have tried EVERYTHING short of castration and incarceration to stop, but nothing ever stuck.

My addiction was destroying my life. I am sober from sex addiction now by doing 12-step. I started out as a staunch agnostic, and nothing could ever change that. Until it became necessary for my survival to become WILLING to believe in God and do the 12 steps.

Notice I said WILLING. I still struggle with faith...but not really. Once I saw the undeniable changes in my life by doing 12-step, faith has grown.

raphl i am a little confused by your post. Are you sober from masturbation? 12 step is a great support group ...faith or no faith...it has helped lots of people so glad you were about to help.

Got it ...i remember a therapist once telling my husband that he didnt have to stop masturbating (not a CSAT) and he couldnt understand why a person would do that. My husband has masturbation in his bottom lines. He has been sober for 4.5 years and still attends 12 step.

I can relate to you feeling guilty afterwards. I think, and this is just my opinion, that I have guilt because growing up I was told/taught that masterbation was wrong and immoral. In my church this is what was preached. I hate to answer a question with another question, but if you are a non-believer, then is it okay to masterbate? Don't feel bad about yourself, i too go through what you're going through. Hang in there.
