Sex addiction is not a male issue. Therapy is helpful and 12 step meetings. Be careful if you attend a meeting ...they tend to be mostly men. Perhaps a telephone meeting? Consider looking for a CSAT therapist.

I think women don't attend ...depending on where you live there may be open meetings for both men and women..or women only meetings. A therapist can go through the criteria to see if they can determine if you a sex addict.

In my town, both men and women attend Sex Addicts Anonymous and Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous meetings. These are two twelve step programs focused on helping people stop addictive sexualized behavior. Look on their websites to find meeting times and locations in your town.

Sometimes, there are gender specific meetings. Phone and internet meetings are also helpful.

Seeing a therapist also can help. CSAT (certified sex addiction therapist) are specialized in treating addictive sexual behaviors and their underlying issues.

I found that in the 12 step meetings, everyone is accepting of each other, regardless of their past behaviors. That's one of the reasons they have worked for me. Thanks. Good luck.

I know that many of the meetings may not even have a single woman ( I am the only female in my group) you could however try a twelve step that has Skype or telephone meetings. You may find this is better as these have a wider reach. I attend 3 Skype meetings and they all have several women who regularly attend.

I feel the same way. I'm a woman and I have no idea where to even start. I don't know if it's even an "addiction" per se. I would just like to have greater control over this. Even though I'm in a loving relationship where the intimacy is great, I have this side-issue and I'd really like a better handle on strategies for stopping. Anyway, my heart goes out to you. Maybe we can both find some answers here.

All, we have collected a ton of resources on our site pornhelp.org. There isn't necessarily a one-size-fits-all strategy for getting a handle on whether you are suffering from an addiction or something else, and on controlling your pornography use. Our only advice is that making a face to face connection with a person who understands and isn't going to judge you is a very effective way to get started. That could be a counselor, a 12-step group, a faith leader, or something else. There are resources oriented toward women (Dirty Girls Ministries, for example, if you are Christian), and many therapists are women (some of whom do phone counseling if you can't travel).
