Sex / Pornography Addiction Support Group
Sexual addiction, also sometimes called sexual compulsion, is a form of psychological addiction to sexual intercourse and other sexual behavior.
Sexual addiction, also sometimes called sexual compulsion, is a form of psychological addiction to sexual intercourse and other sexual behavior.
Recovery communities and the mental health fraternity miss this fact, and they miss it because they are not addicts, and they do have the component inside that allows control over compulsions. I don't even know if they have the compulsions that overwhelm like us, but irregardless of that answer, it is extremely important to do whatever it takes to be willing to break the denial that we can stop on our own.
Sexual compulsion is like a bully, the more you fight with it the more it sees an opportunity to fight back, and if the bully has more power, the bully will win. This is why it is also extremely important to invite a higher power into the situation so it, even though by definition a higher power wouldn't need an invite, can fight the bully for us.
I try to distract myself with working all the time, and it works for a while, but then the trouble begins when I am exhausted from the work, or have completed all the work.
Any suggestions?
Guhzoontigh2,
Actually, many people in recovery communities as well as many mental-health experts do have first-hand experience with addiction. Of the latter group, many who don't have experience with addiction have nevertheless seen it up close and have helped others with successful recovery. I'm not sure where you're going with that.
As for what to do when to tired to work out, one possibility is sleep. Most of us don't get the sleep we should. Or read a book, or watch a movie you have really wanted to see, or listen to a favorite music recording, but do so mindfully -- listen as if it were the first and last time you'd have the opportunity to hear it. Or, if you have the energy to engage in a hobby, such as playing an instrument, drawing, etc., that can help. I don't know if you live alone or with family, but connecting with others always helps me. Prayer is always a good idea, too.
