I just found out that earlier this week my husband was arrested on the charge of child molestation. I have been worried sick for days because I hadn't heard from him in so long. He was well-known to work days in a row without coming home, but he'd never been incommunicado for so many days in a row and I was worried. After not being able to get a hold of him I called his sister who broke the news to me.
I can't even fathom the idea of him doing something like this, much less admitting to it, which she tells me he's done. We have no children, and apparently this was the underage daughter of someone he works for.
His sister also said the jail time that goes with this sentence is 20-40 years.
I have no idea what to do. I've known about this for a whole 90 minutes, and I haven't stopped loving him yet. But I also understand the heinous nature of this awful crime, and I'm selfishly terrified of anyone finding out about this - that I'm married to an admitted child molester.
While I've had instances in the past of being suspicious that he might be cheating, I've never under any circumstances entertained the notion that he would ever do something like this. That I know of, I've never seen any warning signs, and this all seems so out of left field that I'm floored to the point of feeling paralyzed.
Aside from the whole idea of divorcing my apparently soon-to-be-incarcerated-for-most-of-the-rest-of-his-life husband, I'm also worried about how I'm going to live now that his income is clearly no longer a factor in our finances. Having been laid off several months ago, I'm currently on unemployment that comes nowhere near to keeping this paid.
Divorce, bankruptcy, repossession, humiliation, fear, sadness, love, hurt and anger are all issues and ideas swirling around in my head at this moment, and I'm almost catatonic between crying jags.
I'm... broken.
