Hey ladies. I commented on here years ago (totally forgot about this account!) about how my Mom found out that my then-fiance was a sex offender. Things got resolved with her, we got married, and things were fine. I'm now 28, and he's 32.
As a quick story, my husband is a level 1 sex offender. He was convicted of having child pornography almost a decade ago in the mix of his general porn addiction. He wasn't searching for children, just absolutely addicted to porn and got into bad stuff.
We've been married for 3 years and last year, we moved up to Buffalo, NY. The probation restrictions up here in this county are insane. They are much stricter than where we came from. We literally can't do much, and with things opening up, it started affecting our relationships with our friends (they're my friends from college years ago). Recently, we decided that my husband would start telling our few close friends up here about the offense because they've started to wonder why he isn't doing anything, this and that. One couple took it rough a week ago and I haven't heard from them since. We'll be telling our Dungeons and Dragons group today.
I'm just really sick. I'm depressed. His probation officer kept recommending that he tell our friends because "they have a right now know" and just guilt tripping us. And I hate lying and I snapped. But now I feel like I'm losing friends over this. We have no family up here. They were our support system. I don't want to do anything. I'm considering counseling, or even marriage counseling. I'm losing my mind.
If anyone is in the Buffalo area and wants to help a girl out...I would appreciate it. At least then I could talk and hang with someone who won't judge me.
Personal update...the couple that we told now absolutely hates my husband and wants nothing to do with him. It was a wild ride of 20 Questions that actually sounded like they wanted to know more and talk about things, but I have no idea what the point was because it was clearly already settled in their minds. They don't want him in their home, but will be polite with him if they see him in group settings. One of them said that it didn't matter that the crime was ten years ago, it's nothing they want to be associated with. But they're fine with me and want me to decide what to do moving forward. However, they've also said that I shouldn't remain friends with them just because we don't have a lot of people up here (basically out of pity or something). So I'm taking time to collect myself and distance myself from this these people.
Our Dungeons and Dragons group was told on Saturday, and one person reached out to this previous couple (we mentioned we told them recently) and I'm so afraid that the couple ruined our chances of keeping anyone.
So I say again...if you are up here in the Buffalo area, I would appreciate finding someone. We're pretty much settled with regretting moving up here. There's a strong possibility that when all is said and done in 1 1/2 years, that we will be moving.
Not in Buffalo but I have a similar story. We aren't married but same crime, same age difference I'm 29 he's 33. I've been very open and it can be rough. If you ever want to do virtual dnd I'd be down
