My husband is an Iraq/Afghanistan disabled veteran. He has severe PTSD and traumatic brain injury. His time in the sandbox really changed him. He had suicidal episodes two years ago. We’ve been through rounds of infidelity involving Craigslist. I was thrilled when they got rid of their personal ads. About 10 months ago he decided to go off of his meds. I was furious, but things seemed to be ok despite relocation and him starting school. Today he called me from jail to say that he’d been arrested for arranging to meet for sex via the internet. He will be arraigned tomorrow morning. It’s a federal case because he crossed state lines. Then we get a call from a Special Agent from Homeland Security at the State Police barracks where my husband is being held. Turns out the person he was talking to online was law enforcement. I thought perhaps I could handle this, until the Agent said that my husband had arranged to meet with 8 & 12 year old girls. That’s when I lost my stomach. We have a bunch of little kids, and have worked so hard for years to get through his issues. It finally felt like we were in a good place, then WHAM! I swing between blind fury, despair, and wanting to rain violence down on him. I want to hug him, sob on his shoulder, slap his face, wring his neck, and kiss him. I hate him, and I love him. It’s hard to know how to breathe. How am I supposed to behave when I see him?
I attend S-Anon meetings (for friends and families of sexaholics - sanon.org) to help me learn coping skills and how to keep the focus on myself. Blessings!
I am so sorry. It was not supposed to happen this way. He betrayed you and your children. You love him because that is why you wer together. You hate him because he gave absolutely no regard for you or the kids...Who does that? I am tired of hearing about these guys that have sex addiction and twisted desires for kiddies. They know it is wron - which is why they sneak and lie. He made a promise. He broke the law knowing what the consequences would mean for him, you and the kids. He chose it knowing - remember that. There is no room for denial. It is so painful, betrayl. It is a death. a death thet someone close to you chose for you to endure. Would you ever choose for your children to endure losing you? Of course not, because you care about what your children experience - if you're empatheic, compassionate and kind. People like this - like your husband and my husband - are very selfish and don't care! It will be a roller coaster ride while you flux between hate and love... Jesus said that there is ONLY 1 REASON for divorce...infidelity. This shows us that the human experience isnt always suppose to endure the agony of infedelity. Not only was it painful for me, but I did not want this man to have any influence over my 4 children. He has absolutely nothing to do with my kids now and it is for my kids BEST interest. People dont want a sex offender teacher for their kid's teacher - would you want to have one as your kid's dad? I lost 17 pounds when I found out about my husband's crime. Do your best to take care of yourself, protect your kids or you may lose them.....The apple doesnt fall far from the tree. Your husband needs God in his heart, As weird as that may sound - If he held God close to him - he would not have done what he did. If you do visit him; bring a Bible.
I haven’t heard from him since the day of his arraignment. He called me on my way home. Now it’s Sunday. I don’t know his inmate #, he hasn’t set up visitation, mail, or his commissary account. I don’t know what to do next.
This happened with my husband as well. It took about a week for him to get an inmate number and be allowed to call. I’ve been dealing with this for 8 months now. Still feels like yesterday but also so long ago (if that makes any sense). Everyone would tell me just to take care of myself and my daughter. All I could do was get up everyday for her. She is my strength and I thank God everyday for that. He’ll be able to call soon. The system is so slow but he will call. I still want to beat the shit out of him but also hug him so tight. I go through that so many times daily. Sending you love and prayers. I know exactly how you feel. You aren’t alone. As much as it sucks to know that someone else is going through this, it helps to know you’re not alone.
