im training a new guy at work. In my department, when our equipment isn't running, we are expected to clean, anything and everything. I made a big stink about making sure I had time to train the new guy when the equipment was down. My concern was the organizational mindset would be too rigid to break from standard protocol. Yesterday my trainee and I spent most of the night cleaning. When we had an hour to ourselves, I decided to help a coworker instead of training. After talking to the plant manager, he assured me we could take as much time as we needed as long as our regular departmental cleaning duties were done. My reasoning was that we had already been cleaning most of the night, we have just an hour before the end of the shift, let's finish by helping out another worse and resume tomorrow. Now it's going to look like I went completely opposite what I asked of the manager. And my supervisor, who likes to micro manage and trip people up, is going to insist we meet with him for this very reason. I could have avoided it by clearing with the supervisor first. Self sabotage.
