I admit that I have a temper, which I keep in check mostly by avoiding people and staying detached. When someone called me some derogatory names including 'loser' yesterday, I almost lost control. I had to walk away before saying something really insulting, or doing something that I would later regret. Now I feel like a loser who ran from a fight. It seems like there is no way to win.
Some people say that "the best revenge is living well," without explaining what 'well' is. Oh, well! This much I know: you don't get there by watching "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" on TV. The same goes for "American Greed."
This week I have been amazed by the Olympic athletes, not only because of their skill, but because they would persevere for so many years in the face of the nearly insurmountable odds against them. The winners are happy, of course, but I admire more the ones who do not win and still go on try again, and again. It is great when they are vindicated, but how many are not? How do they deal with the disappointment and keep at bay the insidious thought that they wasted their life on a false hope?
