I'm not much on Vampire flicks, but did love The Lost Boys.

Remember when Tom Cruise was picked to play the Vampire in the Ann Rice novel, what was the name of that? He did better than people thought he would. "Interview with a Vampire", was that it?

Yup tinder, it was Interview With A Vampire. That was actually a pretty good movie. I've never seen the Lost Boys - is it worth watching next time it's shown on tv?

I watched the remake of Fright Night not too long ago and found that to be pretty good but then again, I never saw the original so I'm sure people who saw the original would tell me that was probably better than the remake was. But the remake had David Tennant so that makes it better to me.

I tend to think vampires are done better on tv than in movies though.

Any vampire movie that doesnt involve a sparkly vamp is good ....

Tes - Yes, I would put "The Lost Boys" on any recommended vampire flick watch list! Are you refering to "Buffy or Angel" or any made for TV movie?

A-list Vampire movies tend to be overdone I agree, with a few exceptions. I like the "cheese" of the B-rates!

How about Books? I liked "I, Vampire" by Michael Romkey. About a contemporary vampire trying to fit into "anachronistic" vampire society. I have re-read it twice, great book.

Buffy was must see tv when I was in school...I'll still watch them on occasion since they reair on Syfy and Logo. I liked Angel but not as much because sometimes his brooding thing just was annoying (and I kind of blame that character for Twilight). My personal fave though is Being Human (the UK version not the weak American remake). Granted, the vampires weren't the sole focus, but a large part of the show and they always write the vampires to be complex characters and not just one note (evil blood thirsty monsters or brooding bad boys with hearts of gold even though they don't beat).

Interview With a Vampire is still, by far, one of the best. Lost Boys, a classic and I am afraid they will remake it and botch it.

Near Dark was a good one. Seen it many times. Hooked on anything Underworld.

Interview with a Vampire it is for me too. Remember the controversy when Tom Cruise was picked for this role? Major disappointment among Anne Rice fans, but he did the job well. Just another day at the blood sucking office for Mr. Cruise. I remember the haters though, when the casting was first announced.

Stephen Kings - Salem's Lot from 1979 was pretty awesome. I also liked the original Lost Boys. Queen of the Damned was good also.

Not only is it still the quintessential vampire film in my book, but also one of the sexier films out there. How can you go wrong with that cast?? When asked if her sex scene with Catherine DeNeuve required her to stretch her boundaries, Susan Sarandon replied "You don't have to be a lesbian to want to make out with Catherine DeNeuve!"

Throw in David Bowie and a hot intro scene where they seduce and feed on Ann Magnuson, to the music of Bauhaus...ULTIMATE GOTH VAMPIRE FLICK!!!!

You know, there are so many classic vampire movies -- I'm sure plenty I haven't even seen most of them. Bela Lugosi, all those lesbian vampire b-movies from the 60's. Some of them must have been played by Christopher Lee.

Then there are some who deviate from the traditional mythology. It wasn't very good, but there was an alien who had some vampire qualities. I think she fed on the crew of a spaceship one by one, most importantly in the nude.

There are also some very cool (and luckily increasing in number) INDIE vampire films. One example being "Let the Right One In", a Swedish film about a child vampire that was remade (not too badly thank goodness) in the U.S. as "Let Me In".

ALso, LOL, I notice not one mention of "Bram Stoker's Dracula", the one with Gary Oldman and Winona Ryder. One of the few flicks I've ever walked out of.

There was one that came out in the last few years, not the first to cover this theme, but probably visually superior -- the one about Countess Elizabeth Bathory. She did in fact exist so she isn't technically a vampire, just a lot of weird legends surround her that involve bathing in virgin's blood and such. I think she became associated with vampirism because of all the blood rituals, possibly including ingesting it. I didn't see it but it's on my list. Wish I could remember what it was called.

Ok I admit it -- I really liked Blade! The first 2 anyway, I don't remember the 3rd one very well.

I also noticed there were no mentions of any of the Underworld films. Friends, I respect you all the more.

I haven't seen several generations of vampire films. Nosferatu, Lon Cheney, Bela Lugosi, Peter Cushing. Plus there were some pretty bloodthirsty Hammer films. So I feel like I'm not qualified, not having seen so many of them, to choose a ''favorite''. Also there are some films which stray a bit from the vampire tradition. That scifi film with the sexy nude alien who I believe consumed the crew of the spaceship. Then there's been a few made about Countess Elizabeth Bathory, who had a reputation for torturing virgins and engaging in blood rituals, so she gets associated with vampires. I kinda wanted to see the most recent one, I'm sure it's only an improvement on the preceding ones in terms of visual design.
