My husband is bipolar and schizoaffective. I have PTSD, anxiety and major depression also. I need help understanding what is the best way to help him. He is back to cutting and having suicidal thoughts but is not trying to get help. He is trying not to do anything that will help him. He just is pulling inside and listening to the voices. I am scared what he might do. He is not taking his meds correctly and is not taking care of himself (he is diabetic too). An suggestions would be appreciated.
First, take care of yourself. Second, get him to his doctor. You can only help him as much as he will let you. Since he is having suicidal thoughts and engaging in self-harm, you may bypass the doctor and go straight to the emergency room. Good luck and take care.
It is easy for ua to get off track. Your husband is obviously having a tough time. Be there for him and tell him how much you love him. Then get him to his doctor.
Im sorry to hear, just like Burpee said: best to be supportive. I'm sure its hard while you are suffering with issues yourself. I would suggest a hospital stay to get your husbands meds dialed in correctly. In my Prayers
If he is suicidal, a hospital stay is in order. Sometimes it is necessary for the mentally ill to get our meds realigned and sort of a VCR reset. The best thing you can do as a spouse is be gently supportive, drive him to the ER, visit him in the psych ward, bring him clothes if he needs them, and be there for him when he gets out.
The most important thing you can do as a mentally ill person is take your meds, but because of the side effects some people don't like to do this.
