Setting boundaries with your adult children. Knowing the difference between helping and enabling.
So here's my problem. Our son is 35 married with 3 children and doesn't want to work. If he does get a job he always finds something wrong with it. I have helped him a lot financially because of the grandchildren. This is enabling on my part but what about the little ones . Do you just let them all become homeless? This is so hard!
I read the Setting Boundaries with Your Adult Children several years ago. It's a great book and I need to re-read it. The scripture "Apart from Me you can do nothing" is so true! It's so easy to get caught up in all these issues with grown kids and become overwhelmed. That verse among many others is a promise I hold on to. You are right that it's hard to stay in His space consistently. Thankfully He stays in ours without wavering! I'm going to get that second book you told me about. I'm praying for strength and guidance for you and your son.
When the sadness overwhelms me, I repeat that verse to myself as I again surrender it all to God. I’m going to see a therapist today - I’ve been feeling isolated and incompetent...
God bless you all. Thank you for connecting.
