This is pretty cool. To improve statewide responses to the needs of victims, over 50 community leaders attended a summit in Oklahoma City on March 25-26, 2010. In a facilitated discussion, we identified current promising intervention strategies, envisioned how these can be provided by victims' services across the state, and developed a strategy for addressing sexual violence training needs in Oklahoma.
During the summit, several ideas emerged as having particular appeal to providers of victims' services:
* Trainings for law enforcement, judges, and District Attorneys concerning sexual violence
* Increased male involvement in education and prevention
* Non-clinical social support and interaction opportunities for sexual violence survivors (including the use of online technology for outreach and information)
* Incorporation of cultural and spiritual provisions in services for victims of sexual violence

I'm about to cold call a hospital tomorrow and drop off my resume to them. They don't take outside applicants, but who can resist a person with enough balls to just show up and tell them to hire me? That's how I roll... lol. So I'm working on it!
But seriously, from day one when I set foot in Gills office and he asked what my idea of recovery was, aside from PTSD symptoms abating, it was the strength for advocacy work. Keep me in mind for other stuff cause I'll do it when I start earning the big bucks!!! Plus, while I'm there, maybe we can sneak in a sweat?? ;)
Devin, good luck on getting into a hospital I hope you can find someone to hire you for what you went to school for.
As for advocacy I am going tomorrow for my first meeting with first step, the advocacy group in downriver Michigan!
