Its so sad...that poor boy/man.
I think society finds it more difficult when the abuser is female. It goes against our perceptions of women being caring and loving.
As with all stats rise it is hard to know why this is. Are more people reporting or more incidents occurring. I do think there has been a very slight shift in perceptions that may encourage people to speak out. The more that speak out the more will follow...so I have a feeling that this number may rise for some time sadly.
It reminds me of a story in the UK at the moment of a woman working in a childcate setting..who abused and set up children to be abused. Such public outrage because it was a woman. Parents are wary of male childcare workers, but barely blink an eye at female workers.
On a slight side-note, the issue of females as sexual abusers is brought up in the Joolz Denby novel "Billie Morgan" (it's NOT who you'd expect it would be, but I won't say any more than that!) It is a heartbreaking read but handled quite sensitively in the book. At least things like this help to bring the issue into the popular consciousness.
