I wanted to write up a quick note to all of you. I've been away for the past couple of weeks, and I didn't want anyone to think I had disregarded this forum at all. I've taken a father-son road trip through the forests and mountains of the American West, which I do both to bond with my sons in their youth, and to rejuvenate myself personally. I've taken a sabbatical from internet (in fact, from nearly all electronic screens) during that time. I've found that excessive online time, plus a difficult time of year for our family, can manifest in my own self as tension, temper, and diminished empathy. I don't like being such a Mercurial person, so taking a break from all internet--Facebook, DS, whatever--helps cool me down and soothe my mood. I had found that I was becoming too fierce in discussions, too pushy, too abrupt, and too eager to "prove" things rather than being my usual jovial self. That's a synopsis of what this time of year brings up in me anyways, and technology seems to amplify it.

So having spent some time in reflection and nature, it's good to gradually dip my toe back into the pool of internet community. I think reducing my screen time will become a regular part of my self-care. I also wanted to make a point of telling you all how much you mean to me, and how proud I am of you. this community handles itself with such class and wisdom, and it's my privilege to know you.
