Read this, and cry with joy.

An 8-year-old confronts her rapist at his sentencing to six life sentences:

"You need to respect your punishment. That was a bad thing you did. I don't want you hurting anybody else. That is why you should be in jail forever, so accept it. God made you but you are not like God's person. You are the devil's person. You should have been on God's side and this would never happen. Back then I was a little angel fish and you were a great white shark. Now I am the great white shark and you are the little clown fish. I'm going to forget all about you and go on with my life how I want it to be without any bad person stopping me. I was only five years old, now I am eight. I'm going to be what God wants me to be and nothing's stopping me, especially you."

Her grandmother says she wrote the entire statement herself.

I cried all right, the first time I heard about this story and again now. What a brave young lady. I hope the severe sentencing gets the attention of other offenders in Tulsa and everywhere.

I just love the honesty and exuberance of children. i really hope she can hold onto the truth of this as she grows up.

Wow.... just, wow. My girls just turned 9 and omg... the thought. The spirit of survival is amazing. So so sad she has to know what that is like to be the "little fish" but what a blessing she figured out on her own that she is now the "great white" against all those scary things. I wanna hug her! I am proud of her and I don't even know her!!!

Wow, what a brave and neat little girl. Makes me think here I am 40 and dealing with something that happened 14 years ago and she is just 8 and she has already resolved to not let what he did to her beat her. Certainly if she can do that so can I (I want to ). Kuddos to her for getting the chance to write that and read it to his worthless face. A truly amazing child.

I wish, more than just about anything, that I could recapture the wisdom of 'my child'...the me I was then. I do look back and see courage that I no longer seem to have a grasp of. I am awed by the honesty of emotion and faith children have, without trying, they just do. So, in a way, I want to move forward, but I want to go back. Does that make sense?

It does make sense. I was just talking to a friend about this. About how part of me wishes more than anything that I could go back to the child I was. How I could go back to before. That way I could tap back into that courage in the situations where I lack it. I wish that I could get back some of that faith in people that I used to have so strongly. But at the same time, I am proud of the person I have become BECAUSE of everything I have gone through. Without it, I would not have the extreme strength in some areas that I do. I would not be able todo some of the things that I have done in my life. I would not BE the person I am. And I am proud of the person I am. I may have some weak points, but doesn't everyone???

I'm going thru that now! I look at drawings I drew when younger and I just had something! I wish I could have some of that now but yes I am also someone who has gone though alot.Obviously the positive influences in my life had offered themselves to me in order to help me grow. Some things came into my life that weren't in that vein. It just the way it was/is ...

If I could believe in those things again!? Maybe ... I don't know.
