Rainbow Military Community Group
This is a support group for homosexuals that are in the military and/or are in a relationship with someone who has just gone in the military. here we hope to help each other through advice and words of comfort, while discussing policies and politics on equality, as well as news updates on homosexuals being able to live on base and any changes in the "Don't ask ,...
1.)Take time to catch up on your hobbies:
---we all know that being with the SO can be difficult sometimes because you both will not have 100% in common. Naturally, there is a time where you both must compromise, and doing some things as often as you used to is a thing of the past. So while the SO is gone, take time to get back into the things you used to love like drawing, reading, writing, and etc. Singular activities that will help get your mind off of things.
2.) Hang out with friends:
---i know it will seem really hard at first when you are trying to get back into society without your SO there. But it only gets easier the more that you do it. Being with friends, laughing, and having a good time is another way to keep your mind occupied and let the edge off.
3.) Write letters everyday!
---All throughout Basic Military Training, i have spent every night writing Taz a journal about my day. So, when I get letters from her, I can print out the journals and send them to her. Not only does this help me feel like she is still there and I can vent to her, but it also keeps her in touch with home, and lets her know what I have been up to...and it makes her feel like she is in the loop. Plus, that much dedication to writing really shows how much you support your soldier and that you care :)
4.) Sometimes you got to let the emotions out:
---depression will come in waves and stages. You're not going to be positive all of the time, and missing your SO will really begin to take its toll after awhile. And while it may not been a good idea to lay in bed for three days eating nothing but potato chips, sometimes you just need a good cry to let it all out so that you can get it off of your chest.
5.) Don't change the way you live just because they are gone:
---if you like dressing up, then dress up. If you like going out for sushi, then go out for sushi. Just because your SO is gone for the moment does not mean that you should set aside your life and be miserable. thye want you to be just as happy as they were before they left...so get out and do the things that you love.
[[more to come later]]
I cannot say where is going or anything like that, plus it's not a 100%, but if so, this will be the first deployment I have ever-face with a loved one. I have not been too worried about it because I trust my SO more than anyone I have ever been with before.
I just know that I tend not to take very good care of myself when faced with loneliness. Anyone else facing a deployment here soon?
