Coping skills/what helps/what doesn't!!

Hi guys, While brain games have helped me a lot cognitively with BI...during the recent PTSD aftershocks...it became way to overstimulating and I felt my mind was "scattered"...I had a real hard time getting/staying grounded....at times I felt like I was levitating out of my body....very strange feeling. I wonder now if that was a defense mechanism..my brain/body protecting itself...a type of detachment maybe?? I use soft music/white noise/tried to watch calm/safe movies/Jane Austen,etc, but even that calm dialogue seemed too fast. I increased my Med which helped the anxiety/calmed the "mind movies" /l describe it as tho someone straps a TV screen in front of your face that you can't get away from!!?? Laying down,eyes closed,repeating prayers helped the most.

Does your doctor know you increased your med? I get in trouble with my family when I do that but I attempted suicide in July and was in Sheppard Pratt for 2 months. My mind movies are day dreams of when things were better or what I wish they were. I have a boyfriend, am gorgeous, and my legs are back to sexy. I'm sorry for your recent after shocks. Is there a "sponsor" you have that you could call when your afraid or feeling off? You could always call me. I'll send my number in a message. When I'm here, which is ALOT, I would love to talk to you. My dad beat my mom, and I had PTSD noticeably for years. Don't know if I still do. In AA you always have a sponsor, so why not have a life sponsor or person that commits to being there.

Hi Anita, yes my doctor knows, we've talked about situations where it's necessary to increase my Med. The thing is I'm so fiercely independant, I do have a friend of 40 years, different state, but we have been talking more often lately. Because this incident happened in my apt....even tho the guy was fired eventually, took a couple months.....it has taken such an emotional toll on me, I keep thinking of moving....easier said than done. It might sound like a coping thing, but I could end up making a rash decision that might be bad. I'm trying to weigh the pros and cons now in a quiet/calm environment....re-setting my mind to a safe place again...a work in progress!!

Sounds like it was really awful. Are you afraid what happened can happen again? I wish I could help you. I wish I had a friend that long. Lucky. I don't know how to advise you, since I wouldn't know your best move. Should this guy be in jail? No need to answer. If you feel unsafe I fear that may happen anywhere, but I don't know..............Moving is expensive and hard, like I need to tell you. Just keep talking about it and hopefully you will hear what you need to. Sorry I'm not more help.

I live a few minutes from a beautiful calm bay. That's where I head when the stress gets a bit hard to handle. Cold soft drink or water and just absorb the peace. Moving is unsettling. Involves so many things to be done. that causes more stress, So many change of details for things. .Moving is like the flight or stay response. But staying is also hard sometimes. We take our memories with us though. For years sometimes. As cheesecake says, work in progress.
