Coping with pregnancy after stillbirth
Hey all,
I am new here :). I am 21 weeks pregnant with a little boy. My first pregnancy since my angel, second pregnancy overall. I lost my first son, Braedyn David, when I was 28 weeks pregnant. It took us 2 1/2 years to get pregnant with him and this time around almost 2 years. With Braedyn, my angel, he had Downs Syndrome and some heart complications. My husband and I were perfectly fine with having a child with special needs. I work at a high school with Special Education students. I love it. But in the end, we did not bring our little boy home with us.
With my last pregnancy, we knew pretty early on (about week 12) that there were some issues. And we already knew he had Downs. This time around, it has been a pretty smooth pregnancy. I was on bed rest during my 10th week because of a hemorrhage in my uterus but that's all good now. We just had a doctor's appointment on Tuesday and we found out that they again, found markers for Downs. Now this is really unusual. I am 25 and my husband is 24. We were 22 when we were pregnant the first time. And we have no Downs on either side of our family. It was completely out of the blue to have 1 (angel) son with Downs...now we might have 2. I'm starting to wonder if maybe it's the way mine and my husband's DNA combines or something?? I don't know. Anyways, finding this out brings back all of the other feelings from my pregnancy with Braedyn. I start to panic that I'm going to lose this son too. I couldn't do that again. I am praying as hard as I can and keeping good thoughts that we will have a better outcome. We do some more screening for Downs when I'm 26 weeks along. Until then...it's just fingers crossed for us :).

I'm sorry to hear about your situation, that must be scary. Keep praying and staying positive, take it one day at a time. I'll be praying for you and your baby too.

You could ask them to do a blood test on both u and your husband 'karotyping' to check your genes, it's extremely rare that they don't work together, but for the sake of a blood test it could put atleast one of ur worries at ease.

You could also ask for the MaterniT21 test. It's a simple blood test on you to check if the baby you are carrying has Downs, Edwards and one other Trisomy. It's a new test and according to my OB, is very accurate.
