Hi ladies. I tried to make my first obgyn appointment today, and it didn't go that well. I asked the nurse if I could be seen earlier than three weeks from now because of my history and the fact that my previous obgyn told me I would be high risk, she asked me if I had any conditions that caused my "stillborn birth" and I told her no. Basically they don't want to treat me as high risk because there's no cause on record for why I lost Sophia. Why can't they just listen to me for ONCE? This pregnancy will be so hard even without awful condescending doctors treating me like an idiot all over again. Any advice?
P.S. I have an awful headache but am scared to take any tylenol or meds, what should I take/do?
First, congrats on your pregnancy! I'm sorry you have to deal with people that just don't get it. I am not considered high risk but my doctor and midwife have treated me as such for my peace of mind. I would demand they see you earlier. If they're not willing to treat you better I would go somewhere else (if you can). You might have to be straight and blunt with them and possibly a little rude to get them to listen to you. When I first saw my providers I asked them if they were willing to see me more often and be available for phone calls.
As for the headache, have you thought of seeing a chiropractor? I had horrible headaches in the beginning and the only relief I could get was from my chiropractor. I also used a heating pad on my neck. I took tylenol a few times but it didn't help. I am a little nervous to take tylenol too.
Let me congratulate you too on the new pregnancy! What a wild ride these rainbows are. . .
I can't say enough how you will need to advocate for high-risk care. I spoke up early on (and I'm not one who usually speaks my mind. . .) but my doctors were very supportive that extra monitoring and more testing would be required for my sanity! Since we never got an answer about June's death, there wasn't anything that technically put me at higher risk--but given the complications that have arisen in this rainbow pregnancy, I'm so very glad they set out to define me as such from the beginning.
After 20 weeks, I inisited that I be seen every 2 weeks even though that wouldn't have happenend until much later--I needed that reassurance for my emotional well being, and given what we've all been through, our emotional health needs to be taken seriously. I'm not sure if switching doctors is an option for you, but we decided to see a high risk practice (Maternal Fetal Medicine) exclusively for this pregnancy. I could have gone to my old Ob and just been refered to the MFM practice for extra testing, but I thought that would complicate the matters to have to different practices in charge of my care.
I hope you find a doctor/practice that supports you. You will need all the support you can get during this rainbow pregnancy and shouldn't have to twist yourself in knots trying to get it.
I agree with these ladies. I'm not sure of your situation, but if it is at all possible, you need to doctor shop and find a doctor that you both like and trust. It took me awhile, but I wasn't going to settle for anything less than the best. I also went to a high risk doctor. I wanted someone who specialized in complicated high risk pregnancies. However, if you are unable to switch doctors, like the ladies above me said, make sure you demand high risk treatment. Be very open and honest about your fears and emotions. Express how high your anxiety is. Most doctors that are not high risk are usually not trained very well in bed side manner when it comes to a patient who has lost a child, so keep that in mind when you are talking to them because most likely, you will have to educate them. And, keep in mind that you are paying them. They work for you. YOU are the boss!!
First, congratulations!!! That will be the longest 9 months ever. You will be worry about misscarriage and than stillbirth, but I guess thats how the thinks roll after loosing a child...
I went to the doctor who delivered Daniel, because I knew he will be sensitive about my second baby. I saw him few times before I got pregnant and we made a decision that even with 6 doctors in my practice I will see only him or his friend. When I got pregnant, the lady on registration also told me that I can see doctor like in 3 weeks, and it would be somebody random, because in this practice I need to see each of them. She got me soooo upset and kill my joy from getting pregnant. I started to yell at her (seriously, I already cried) and told her to :"get up from that fricking desk and go tell doctor Alkass that I'm calling and I'm pregnant" and she did. After 2 min she came back with a different attitude, congratulated me and set up appointment with him next week.
Although I wasn't high risk, my doctror treated me like I was for whole pregnancy. He saw me for the first 10 weeks every week, then in my second trimester every 3 weeks.Since first appointment every time when I come we are doing ultrasonograf to make sure the baby grows. We never use doppler ( because on my 15 week doppler was silent- position of the baby and placenta and that scared me to death)
Now I'm in my third trimester and I see my OB once a week again.
Make sure you have a good and sensitive doctor, it's so important in this pregnancy! It will be hard on you as it is and you don't need an extra stress.
Tylonol is safe, I was taking it milon of times through this pregnancy. Don't take anything else.
Good luck!!!

I hope you are able to get care soon!
