I had my first ultrasound today because my OB wanted me to have one as soon as I hit 6 wks. According to my LMP I am 6wks 2days but from the day I ovulated I am 6wks. The tech kept asking me to hold my breath which made me very nervous! My OB wasn't there so I couldn't ask her anything but the tech told me that there is a heartbeat, thank GOD, but the heart rate is on the lower end of the range. What?! Why would she tell me that knowing I am a mess!!! She said she got two rates one of 108 and one of 113 bpm.
I'm trying to stay calm but I can't help but wonder if I should even get my hopes up. I wish God or one of his messengers would come down, put one hand on my shoulder, and tell me, "Don't worry about anything, your baby will be ok." LOL!!! I guess time will tell me.
Now I'm just waiting until tomorrow to hear from my doctor.
Try to focus on the positive. There was a heartbeat and although they said it was in the lower end of the range, it was in the range! I know how easy it is to become anxious and obsessively worry about everything, but I am trying so desperately to be positive(I know, easier said than done!). Hang in there, this will all be worth it in the end.
At my first u/s, the heartbeat was 105 and I was right around 6 weeks. My doctor told me that anything above 100 was what she was looking for. I'm now 24 weeks and baby is looking healthy. Hope your doctor gives you the same reassurance tomorrow!
I agree with the others - I don't even know what the heartrate was at my first ultrasound, she did say it was low, but that it's normal at that point. The heart could have just started beating only a few days ago! I've ready anything from 90-120 is normal at that early stage so I think you're doing great!! :)
There have been many of us who have come here in a panic after that first ultrasound! I got the whole miscarriage talk at my first visit for this pregnancy because the baby was measuring too small. One week later we were right on target. I did a ton of research after that ultrasound and, like the others, found that a heartrate from 90-120 is normal that early. That HR sounds perfect!
The fact that there was a heartbeat at 6 weeks is awesome! They couldn't find my babies heartbeat until 7.5 weeks and I am now 31 weeks and going strong! :-) Early ultrasounds before the 8th week are more cause for alarm than anything else. I was in a panic from 5 weeks to 7.5 weeks thinking I would miscarry. Everything has turned out great so far! Good Luck!!
My OB called yesterday and said the heartrate is right on target for 6wks and its measuring perfect according to my ovulationn date! She said everything looks great. I am kinda getting excited now, this might actually happen this time!!
