I am sorry you were diagnosed at such a young age. I personally got it later in life but there are people with "juvenile myositis" and you might fit in that category. I have seen some younger adults at the TMA conference too. So you are not alone. I hope you find a doctor that is familiar with the disease and can help you feel your very best possible.

Hi, DMsucksss, and welcome to this forum of nice people. I hope you will be encouraged here. Like lexisgirl, I got myositis as an adult. And I feel very bad for you because you are so young and in the prime of your life. But as lexisgirl mentioned, you are not alone. There are even young children with juvenile myositis. That doesn't take away from your grieving over the loss of function, but hopefully it will give you comfort to know that you are not alone. And let me assure you that there is life after a diagnosis of DM or PM. In my case, the Lord has given me a greater appreciation of life, and more understanding for others with chronic disease. It has slowed me down a little, but I'm still "in the fight." Myositis can mean making a few adjustments here and there, but you can lead a full life despite myositis. And you won't always feel as poorly as you feel right now, especially once doctors find the right medical protocol for you. Sending you blessings and best wishes.

Hi There, DM can occur at any age just like diabetes. DM is an autoimmune disease that often overlaps with Lupus and/or Scleroderma. DM can improve over time. Most of us like to discuss disease maintenance issues like diet, exercise, supplements, accommodations etc.. that help make life easier and more tolerable. Do read over the posts on this site since there is a lot of good information.

I have talked with many young people with DM. I have talked with some people who started with DM at a young age and went into remission for several years. Do work closely with your doctor with remission as a goal.
