Polymyositis & Dermatomyositis Support Group
Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.
It is sometimes difficult to know whether it is the medications or the disease that could be causing stomach issues. The meds should be helping with disease symptoms.
I have DM with Scleroderma intestinal issues. I get very constipated so I eat a lot of bran and cruciferous veggies. I will also juice with veggie drinks to help with vitamin absorption. DM/PM is know to cause stomach and/or intestinal issues as a part of the disease for many people. I also eat a gluten free diet. I do follow the Joel Fuhrman diet too. The muscles in my intestines do not work to well to move food forward and this is part of my disease. My Cellcept and Prednisone help to control the disease, but I will still experience intestinal issues.
I hope things will settle down over time with your stomach. I know that many people here will have some good suggestions that might be helpful too. I would suggest to try juicing with veggie drinks that do not contain high sugar amounts. See if the juicing will help settle things down and return to normal.
Keep us posted.
